Good Sunday Morning…
So many are suffering broken hearts in America today.
Countless are homeless in California as a result of raging wildfires.
In western North Carolina people are struggling to keep their families together in flimsy shelters after the floods of Hurricane Helene washed their homes away.
And just this week, 67 innocent lives were taken simultaneously as an airliner and a military helicopter collided in Washington, D.C.
In Philadelphia, seven people on a medical transfer jet crashed just after takeoff taking the lives seven, six in the plane and one in a car on the ground. Nineteen others on the ground were injured.
Everyone whose lives were touched by the victims of these tragedies is grieving their loss, and the rest of us are grieving with them.
These are the times that try mens’ souls.
These are the times when we must cry out to Jesus, as the song for this devotional tells us.
Jesus is where we can find hope, rest, love, forgiveness, mercy and healing.
“There is hope for the helpless
Rest for the weary
And Love for the broken heart
And there is grace and forgiveness
Mercy and healing
He’ll meet you wherever you are.”
Cry out to Jesus.
God tells us in Psalm 50:15: “… call upon me in the day of trouble. I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.”
As Christians, this is when we must rise up and show great love to those who are grieving. In addition to those entangled in the above mentioned disasters, there are people around all of us with troubles that are racking their lives.
In 1 Thessalonians 5:14, the Apostle Paul tells us: “And we urge you brothers and sisters, … encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone.”
A prayer for today:
Father our hearts are heavy today for all those grieving the loss of life and treasure. They have lost their security in earthly things, so wrap them in your arms today and comfort their weary souls. Send someone to their side to give them comfort through you and your powers. We know you are faithful to answer when we call out to you. You can calm storms of all kinds, Lord, and we give you praise for always being beside us. Lord soften the hard hearts across America and unite us in our caring for others during these troubled times. In the precious name of Jesus, Amen.
