It’s Christmas Eve…
It’s Christmas Eve…
This musical devotional’s theme is “God is Love” and the song, “When Love Was Born” tells the story of Christmas with a beautiful, scripturally accurate lyrics. It was written by Christian singer/songwriter Mark Schultz. It is presented above by Martha Borg who is associated with Jimmy Swaggart Ministries.
The phrase "God is love" appears in the Bible in 1 John 4:8 and 4:16.1
John 4:8: "God is love".
1 John 4:16: "So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him".
The phrase "God is love" means that love is at the core of God's being, and not just one of his attributes. Other Bible verses that discuss God's love include:
1 John 4:7-12
"Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love".
Isaiah 54:10
"For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed," says the Lord, who has compassion on you.
“God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 KJV
Jesus came to show the world what real love was. Preachers often say those three nails didn’t hold Jesus to that cross at Calvary, he was held there by his love for us.
As we celebrate Christmas, let’s cherish this time, drinking in the love that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ pours out for us each day.
And today let’s meditate on the words of Mark Schultz in the fourth verse of “When Love Was Born,”
Bethlehem, through your small door
Came the hope we've waited for
The world was changed forevermore
When Love was born
Merry Christmas!

Love the Mark Schultz song! Yes, Christ on the cross is the greatest demonstration of love! I’ve always been struck by Jesus’ words to the disciples on their last earthly night together: “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you…I have called you friends.” John 15:12-14.
Thank you for the reminder of God’s love. Merry Christmas, Charles. And the best for the New Year!
